Start with the right greeting

First decide whether the letter is formal or personal.

Formal: Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, (Dear Sir or Madam,)

Formal: Sehr geehrte Frau Müller, (Dear Ms Müller,)

Personal: Liebe Anna, (Dear Anna,)

Personal: Lieber Paul, (Dear Paul,)

Use the formal greeting for a company, school, gym, or landlord. (Use the personal greeting for a friend.)

The greeting ends with a comma. Start the next sentence with a small letter.
