Reference: mögen conjugation, tenses and meanings

The verb

mögen means to like. Its imagined form möchte means would like, which is how you politely order or ask for things: Ich möchte einen Kaffee.

  • mag has no ending for ich and er / sie / es: ich mag, er mag.
  • möchte / möchtest / möchten / möchtet = would like (very frequent, A1).
  • mochte (past of mögen) is different from möchte (would like).
  • Without a second verb: Ich mag Pizza. With one: Ich möchte gehen.
How this page works: ten words, ten questions. Every word answers exactly one question and turns gray once used. If you are unsure, open this tutorial and come back.
