The verb
werden means to become. It is also the helper for the future (ich werde kommen) and for the passive (das Haus wird gebaut), so it is one of the most important German verbs.
- Irregular: du wirst, er wird; past wurde.
- Three jobs: become (Er wird Arzt), future (Ich werde anrufen), passive (Das wird gemacht).
- Perfect of 'become' uses sein: ist geworden. In the passive the participle is worden: ist gemacht worden.

The done form (Partizip II) is geworden.
Look-alikes: werden is wir and sie / Sie; werdet is ihr; wurde is ich and er / sie / es in the past. Passive uses wird / wurde + the done form of another verb.
Tenses
Er wird Arzt.
Present: He is becoming a doctor.
Er wurde Arzt.
Past: He became a doctor.
Er ist Arzt geworden.
Perfect: He has become a doctor.
Ich werde dich anrufen.
Future: I will call you.
Das Haus wird gebaut.
Passive: The house is being built.
Ich würde Arzt werden.
Imagined: I would become a doctor.
Word order
Es wird kalt.
Statement: the verb is in second place.
Wirst du Lehrer?
Question: the verb is first.
Ich glaube, dass es kalt wird.
After dass: wird goes to the end.
Ich werde morgen kommen.
Future: werde is second, the infinitive at the end.
Das Essen wird gemacht.
Passive: wird is second, the participle at the end.
Ich weiß nicht, was aus ihm geworden ist.
After was: geworden ist (the helper comes last).
In long sentences, find the helper near the front and the verb at the end of that part. Extra information between commas can wait.
